The Effect of English Admission Test and Various Variables on Foreign Language Skills of Students

This study compares students' foreign language proficiency according to several criteria and the role of English Admission Test (EAT). The predictive correlational research design, one quantitative methods, was used in this study. group consisted 81 undergraduate students studying Language Teaching Department a state university southern Turkey. Proficiency (TELP) developed by researchers EAT scores were as data collection tools. validity reliability analyses test conducted using jMetrik, analysis software for classical theory item response theory, difficulty discrimination values, well KR-21 coefficients, calculated. In line with findings, it concluded that relevant is reliable valid measurement tool. According predicted total TELP reading but not their listening, writing, or speaking scores. Besides, who received preparatory training performed better on listening tests than those did not. Finally, male outperformed female both other tests. parallel results research, some suggestions put forth. Accordingly, successfully measures four basic skills needed order fully measure target will field education. For purpose, content Foreign (YDT), which currently use, can be expanded make multidimensional questions measuring different added test. facilitate transition process prepare infrastructure, gradually question types more skill used.
